Kettering College Hosts Eighth Annual Spring Into Health 5K

Story by Jessica Beans

Despite the cold weather, more than 500 gathered at Kettering College’s eighth annual Spring Into Health 5K run/walk and Wellness and Fun Fair on Sunday, April 10.

“I was impressed with the turnout in spite of the cold weather this year,” says Victor Brown, dean for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. “Over the years this event has grown, but we hope that the number of participants will continue to grow so that we will be able to donate even more in the future!”

This annual student-led event not only promotes healthy living but is a fundraiser for Dayton’s Good Neighbor House (75%) and for the college’s Physician Assistant Student Professional Development Fund (25%). Good Neighbor House, founded by eight Dayton-area Adventist churches in 1994, gives help and hope to the under served in the Dayton community, providing food pantry services, health promotion, clothing and household items to individuals and families in need.

A free Wellness and Fun Fair was held before the race that featured a variety of health screenings, education on health care topics, vendors, a bouncy-house, and games for kids.

The seventh annual race in 2015 had about 600 people in attendance for the cause and raised over $10,000 for Good Neighbor House.
