Potomac Conference to Provide Two ‘Impact’ Camp Meeting Sites

Two Potomac Conference “Impact 2019: Camp Meeting Re-imagined” events will be held next month. This new camp meeting format allows for local pastors to help plan and organize area meetings, enabling the message and format to be tailored for each community.

The main speakers will be Barry Black, U.S. Senate chaplain, and Hermes Tavera Bueno, who pastors in the Greater New York Conference.

After a welcome from Nate Brandstater, the president of Kettering College, the qualifying tournament of the Ohio Conference Education Department’s Adventist Robotics League officially began. The Dayton-area Pathfinder drum corps led the proceedings. Soon after, Ron Halvorsen Jr., conference president, opened with prayer.

As I arrived at the La Esperanza Spanish church (The Church of Hope) in Union City, N.J., one Friday evening for a youth program, the first elder introduced me to Carlos Saltos. He greeted me very kindly and directly said to me, “I’ve been looking for you, Pastor. I need to tell you something that has happened in my life.”

Southview Medical Center to add two large operating rooms

Kettering Adventist HealthCare's Southview Medical Center is adding two large operating rooms (ORs) to accommodate increased surgery volume and allow for different kinds of surgeries.

Each operating room will be 700 square feet and will allow a variety of surgeries, including orthopedic, women’s health and general.

To make room for the new ORs, 5,000 square feet will be added to Southview, which will involve pushing out a wall. The project will cost approximately $8 million and is expected to be completed in April 2020.

WGTS 91.9 Listeners Set Spring Fundraising Record

The WGTS 91.9 Team says thank you to the listeners at the end of the fundraiser.

More than 3,200 WGTS 91.9 listeners showed their support by making a gift during the spring fundraiser. Together their gifts set a new spring fundraising record. These gifts come just as WGTS prepares to move to a new facility this summer.

At Mountain View Conference’s constituency session, held Sunday, delegates re-elected their top two officers and received good news about the financial picture of the smallest conference in the Columbia Union.

Nurses Honored at Appreciation Day Event

More than 100 nurses and their friends and family from around the Allegheny East, Chesapeake and Potomac conferences recently gathered at Potomac’s Southern Asian church in Silver Spring, Md., for Nurses’ Appreciation Day. “We wanted our Adventist nurses to be recognized, acknowledged and celebrated for the work they do. We want them to know that the Adventist church and the Adventist HealthCare system appreciates them,” said event organizer Kathy Coleman, Faith Community Nurse coordinator and program director for Adventist HealthCare in Montgomery County, Maryland.
